About Mirtaz:

Mirtaz (Mirtazapine) is a medicine used in treating patients exhibiting symptoms of depression. As an antidepressant, Mirtaz has been found effective in improving moods as well as the general well-being of patients using the medication. Its main method of working is through reduction of neurotransmitters which are natural chemicals found in the brain.

How to use Mirtaz

Carefully ensure that you use the medicine as prescribed to you by your physician. Each time you get a new prescription, read instructions on the label and if there is anything you are unsure about, consult your doctor before using the medicine. Mirtaz should be taken orally and can be taken together with or without food. Normal prescriptions include a dosage of one tablet a day that is encouraged to be taken before bedtime or as when indicated by your prescription. To get the most from this medicine, use it regularly and ensure that you finish your dose. Most dosages will last between 1 and four weeks and during this period, an improvement in your symptoms should have started showing. In case they worsen or do not show in time, do not alter or stop taking your medication. Consult your physician for diagnosis and further advice.

Mirtaz Dosage

There are two different types of Miraz tablets; the 15mg and 30mg which are both coated with strength film. Your physician will recommend the most appropriate tablet and give you a prescription which you should follow strictly. For most patients suffering from symptoms related to depression, the starting dose is 15mg, and this should be taken on a daily basis and before bedtime. This dose however may be adjusted in the future depending on how your physician judges the improvement of your condition.

Mirtaz Side Effects

Mirtaz increases the activities of serotonin and noradrenaline in the brain. This may have side effects to some but not all patients. Some common side effects that have been reported by previous patients include vomiting, an increase in body weight, sleepiness or drowsiness, an increase in appetite and vertigo. These frequently occur in patients but are of a mild nature. Should they persist or get worse, contact your physician immediately. Severe side effects that are known to have been experienced by other patients when using this medicine include; fever, uncontrollable shaking, the rigidity of your muscles, seizures and hallucinations. These are not all side effects and for a conclusive report on side effects that should or should not concern you, talk to your physician.

Mirtaz Precautions

Because of the sleepiness this medicine causes to patients, you are advised not to drive or operate machinery that requires a high level of concentration. Be aware before starting to use the medicine that just like most antidepressants, it can have an effect on your mental health and stability. A common indication of this effect is the experiencing of suicidal thoughts. Contact your physician as soon as such thoughts cross your mind. This medicine may also not be safe to your pregnancy or breastfeeding baby. Talk to your physician about the risks of the medicine if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to conceive soon.
