About Mirnite Meltab: Mirnite Meltab 15 is a drug used to treat depression. It belongs to a class of drugs called tetracyclic antidepressants (TeCA) which work by inhibiting alpha-2 receptors in the brain’s nerve cells. The active ingredient, mirtazapine, works by influencing serotonergic acid and affecting the action of noradrenergic in the brain. This results in the prevention of noradrenaline and serotonin (neurotransmitter chemicals) from binding with nerve cells. It is believed that a shortage of these neurotransmitters is the cause of depression. This drug counters this imbalance and puts the patients in a positive mood hence warding off depression.
