About Mirnite Meltab: Tetracyclic antidepressants work by improving the activity of noradrenaline and serotonin. The brain naturally produces these neurotransmitters and they have a positive effect on mood. A low level of these brain chemicals has been linked to depression. The active ingredient mitrazapine inhibits alpha-2 receptors in the brain’s nerve cells prevent the two neurotransmitters from merging with the nerve cells This prolongs the positive mood-lightening results that treat depression.
How to use Mirnite Meltab
Mirnite Meltab is taken orally and is designed as a disintegrating tablet each with 7.5mg concentration. . It’s a prescription drug and the doctor can start you off at a low dose. Follow the doctor’s prescription on dose and instructions for use. To administer the tablet, place the tablet on your tongue and wait until it fully disintegrates while swallowing the dissolved particles. Do not crush, chew or wash down with water.
Mirnite Meltab Dosage
The doctor can start you off with a 15mg dose (two tablets) taken before going to sleep. This is for mild depression symptoms although a higher dosage can be prescribed after examining the extents of the symptoms in the first consultation. During treatment, you need to regularly visit the doctor so that progress is monitored. The doctor can then adjust the dosage if necessary. Maintenance dosage ranges from 15mg to 45mg per day. Take the dose(s) around the same time everyday so that you do not forget a dose. Do not take more than the prescribed dose.
Mirnite Meltab Side Effects
Mirnite Meltab 7.5 tablets have some unwanted side effects including dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, constipation, drowsiness and lightheadedness. Patients using this drug can also experience changes in appetite and unexpected weight gain. Other more severe, albeit rare, side effects are involuntary muscle reflexes, muscle rigidity, hallucinations, tremors, fever and signs of infection. Contact your doctor if you experience any adverse side effects.
Mirnite Meltab Precautions
This drug reacts negatively with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) antidepressants and should not be taken together. Neither should you take Mirnite Meltab tablets in under 14 days since your last MAOI medication. The side effect is life threatening and the doctor should know of any other antidepressants or medication you are taking. If you experience any allergic reactions like hives, rash, swelling and difficulty in breathing, seek emergency medical attention immediately. Patients should avoid abruptly stopping treatment because withdrawal symptoms can occur. Although they go away after a while, they can be distasteful and you should talk to your doctor to gradually reduce the dose. It is important to inform the doctor of any health conditions you have, if you are pregnant or lactating or if you are on any other medication.
