About Pitocin : Pitocin Injection (Oxytocin) - 0.5mL is a medicinal injection used in the treatment of delayed delivery. Pitocin is a clear and colourless substance consisting of an artificial form of oxytocin. Each portion contains 10 units of oxytocic hormone per millilitre of medication and 0.5% of chlorobutanol. The medication works by increasing the contractions and smooth muscles of the uterus. It is also responsible for inducing labour that has already started and prevent excessive bleeding from child birth. This is otherwise the task of oxytocin released from the pituitary gland in the brain; Pitocin is a synthetic version of oxytocin. The hormone is designed not to react or be contaminated by vasopressin (ADH) and other natural polypeptides. Pitocin Injection (Oxytocin) is FDA approved.
How to use Pitocin
Pitocin Injection (Oxytocin) is injected on intramuscular regions of the body, these include the hip, upper arm or the buttocks. The dosage and frequency of treatment is determined by a physician and will also depend on the condition of the patient.
