Brand Name : Nizral
Generic Name: Ketoconazole |
Manufacturer : Johnson & Johnson
About Nizral: The official product name for this drug is Nizoral tablets. Its main active ingredient is known as Ketoconazole. It is produced and marketed under a company bearing the names of Janssen-Cilag. Other scholars believe that Johnson and Johnson in India are the main manufacturers. It can be administered on both men and women.
It belongs to a group known as imidazole. It works by attacking fungal cells and disrupting their normal functions by stopping their multiplication process. It works on a chemical compound known as ergosterol which tends to build up the cell wall of the fungus. After destroying this wall, the cells cannot multiply. As a result, it used to treat the fungal infections in gut, toe nails, esophagus, throat, lungs, bladder and the skin.
It is also used to treat stubborn vaginal thrush (candidiasis) that keeps reoccurring, resistant fungal infections on the toes and other fungal infections found all over the body. It also solves problems associated with weakened immune systems as a result of chemotherapy and other medical therapies.
Report any allergic reactions to the nearest health facility so that the right reversal treatments can be administered.
Discontinue use of this drug if you have suffered from liver problems, heart rhythm disorders, and decreased stomach acid or kidney failures. Any of these chronic ailments may worsen once the administration of the drug takes effect.
It is not advisable to self-medicate or to manipulate the dosage. The doctor can tell whether it should be increased or not. Any case of hypersensitivity should also not go unreported since it may cause other problems. The patient may feel better within two weeks into the therapy. However, this is not reason enough to discourage them from completing the entire dosage.
It is important for one to avoid antacids for at least two hours before taking it. These drugs tend to hinder the absorption of ketoconazole into the stomach.
Intake of alcohol and other drugs is prohibited during the therapy. This is because they tend to worsen the side effects caused by the drug.
Other cases that should never go unreported are pregnancy, breastfeeding, intake of vitamin supplement and other prescription drugs. One way or another, these cases tend to interfere with the effectiveness of the drug.
