About Mignar: Mignar-50 (Miglitol) - 50mg (15 Tablets) is used to counter hyperglycemia and is used when diet and exercise are not effective in lowering blood sugar. Some people’s bodies cannot reduce blood glucose e.g. obese diabetic patients and this is where Mignar comes in. It works by slowing down the synthesis and absorption of table sugar (sucrose) and other complex sugars (like starch) in the small intestine. This is achieved by the active ingredient Miglitol which delays carbohydrates digestion in the digestive tract and thus reduces the amount of glucose absorbed into the body.

How to use Mignar

This is a prescription drug and the doctor’s orders should be followed. Mignar 50mg is usually taken three times a day. Take the tablets with the first bite of food and accompany it with a glass of water. This is because digestion of sugars takes precedence before fats and proteins. For best results, you should take this drug as part of a program that involves exercising and dieting, weight watching and control as well as regular blood tests to monitor blood glucose levels.

Mignar Dosage

Each tablet has a dosage of 50mg and should be taken with every meal. The dose can however be adjusted according to how you are responding to treatment. For instance, if you are taking any other anti-diabetic drugs, you can use a lower dose. This is why regular blood sugar tests and visits to the doctor are important. Generally, at whatever dose, you are supposed to take three per day. Do not take more than the prescribed dose since it increases the risk of experiencing side effects.

Mignar Side Effects

Mignar (Miglitol) - 50mg (15 Tablets) has some unwanted side effects including gastrointestinal complications like; diarrhea, flatulence and gas, soreness of the abdomen, feeling full and soft stools. Other side effects include dizziness, confusion, fatigue, rash and shakiness or not being able to walk steadily. Tell your doctor if you experience any side effects so that they can reassess the dose.

Mignar Precautions

If you experience an allergic reaction characterized by swelling of the face, lips and tongue, difficulty in breathing, skin rash and chest tightness; immediately visit an emergency room. Mignar is not suitable for pregnant women or breastfeeding mothers. Inform the doctor if you are using any prescription or over the counter medicine to prevent negative interactions. If you have a pre-existing condition like diabetic ketoacidosis or kidney disease, you should update the doctor before starting treatment.
