About Januvia: Januvia 100mg (Sitagliptin) is used to lower blood sugar to manage type-2 diabetes mellitus. It has sitagliptin as the active ingredient which belongs to a class of drugs called DPP-4 inhibitors. These drugs increase insulin levels produced after eating and at the same time decreases the blood sugar produced by the body.
How to use Januvia
This drug is administered orally in tablet form. For the Januvia 100mg tablets, the recommended dose is one tablet to be taken once per day. This can differ from one person to the next according to the prescription. The pill can be taken with or without food and drink. It is wise to maintain a healthy specialized diet and exercise when taking medicine for better results.
Januvia Dosage
You should follow the doctor’s prescription when using Januvia 100mg tablets. This medication should be taken once per day or as prescribed. Each tablet has 100mg of sitagliptin, enough for an adult with type-2 diabetes. Patients with kidney problems, however, will receive a lower dose of between 25mg and 50mg. Januvia 100mg can be prescribed together with other medicine for managing diabetes, e.g., insulin, sulphonylureas, metformin, and glitazones.
Januvia Side Effects
Januvia 100mg has side effects such as; a headache, stomach upset, nausea, diarrhea and constipation, sore throat, runny nose, common cold-like symptoms, skin rashes, muscle and joint pain. Inflammation of the pancreas is another serious side effect that can quickly turn into pancreatitis. Symptoms of pancreatitis include the skin rashes and blistering of the skin. Should you experience any of these side effects, consult your doctor immediately.
Januvia Precautions
A history of pancreatitis, gallstones, kidney problems, type-1 diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis might render you unfit to take Januvia 100 (Sitagliptin). Notify your doctor of any past conditions to avoid unwanted side effects. This medicine interacts with other drugs such as sulphonylurea which reacts negatively with insulin. The interaction can cause hypoglycaemia where the blood sugar drops. Tell your physician if you are taking any other medicine including insulin and sulphonylurea so that they can reduce the dosage of either. This medicine is not safe for pregnant women and can harm the unborn baby. It is not known if this drug can pass into breast milk. Children below 18 years should not use Januvia 100mg tablets since it hasn’t been proven to be safe and effective. This medicine can cause dizziness and caution should be taken when driving or operating machinery.
