About Dutas : Dutas 0.5 mg is a medicine used in the treatment of mild to moderate cases of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). It also helps to reduce the risk of retention of urine and the further surgical procedures. It contains an active ingredient called Dutasteride 0.5mg. It is a potent remedy. It acts on the dihydrotestosterone which helps in the shrinkage of the prostate gland and results in relieving the urinary tract infections which finally leads to a condition called BPH. It belongs to the medicine group called 5 - alpha reductase inhibitors. It comes in the form of soft gelatin coated capsules and the strip of 15 tablets. Dr.Reddy`s Pharmaceuticals Ltd manufactures Dutas 0.5 mg.

How to use Dutas

Dutas 0.5 mg is a medicine with active ingredient Dutasteride 0.5mg. It should be taken on the advice of the consulting doctor. It should not be passed to other persons with same conditions, as it may complicate the health conditions. It should not be broken, or contents of the capsules should not be opened, as this active ingredient may get absorbed by the skin contact too. Before taking the medicines read the instruction leaflet carefully to know the drug symptoms and reactions in detail. The medication should be kept in a dry, cool place and away from the direct sunlight.

Dutas Dosage

The recommended dose of Dutas 0.5mg is usually once a day and in the early morning. It has to be taken a whole, no breaking or tampering with the capsules to be done along with the water. It is usually a long-term treatment which may take up to 6 months or more. The dosage is regulated based on the (Serum prostate-specific antigen) PSA levels and the patient`s response to the treatment. Do not take a double dose, to make up for the forgotten dose as this may lead to the overdose of the medicines and lead to tiredness or difficulty breathing. There is no antidote for the overdosage hence the patient should be treated symptomatically.

Dutas Side Effects

Dutas 0.5 mg has some mild to moderate health effects, which when gets serious then has to be hospitalized. Some such side effects are -

Dutas Precautions

Inform the doctor, regarding the intolerance to the 5-alpha reductase inhibitors or any other leading illness like hepatic and renal impairment before the drug prescription.

Inform the doctor regarding the fertility treatment in males, as this ingredient may be present in semen and may affect the child during pregnancy planning.

Strictly use the condom, as the semen mixed with the drug can affect the females in cases of pregnancy or any other allergic conditions to the sexual partners.

Tampered or leaking capsules should be kept away from the pregnant females, lactating women and children as it may quickly get absorbed on skin contact. In the case of contact, wash immediately with cold water.
