About Asthalin:
This is a prescription drug and can only be purchased under doctor’s orders. Asthalin 2mg belongs to a class of drugs referred to as short-acting beta-2 agonists. This class of drugs acts on the adrenergic receptor in the brain to relax smooth muscles. This causes the bronchial passages to dilate as well as the liver muscles, uterine muscles and causes insulin release into the bloodstream.
Each tablet contains 2 mg of Asthalin among other inactive ingredients. They are administered orally (through swallowing) to relieve asthma symptoms, emphysema, bronchitis and COPD. Use Asthalin tablets as prescribed by the doctor. The tablets can also be taken to provide quick relief when you experience breathing attacks. Asthalin 2 mg tablets should be taken twice a day with a glass of water. You can take them before or after a meal. The common dosage is 8 mg administered every 12 hours for either adults or children. Some patients and children below 12 years will benefit from a 4mg daily dosage.
The doctor will alter the dosage according to your condition, age and weight. For example, children between ages 6 and 12 should not take more than 24 mg of Asthalin in a day while those between 12 and 18 should not exceed 32 mg. Follow the dosage until it is over and don’t stop taking the tablets when the effects subside. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember and continue with the regular dosage the next day.
Asthalin 2 mg tablets have some side effects outside of their intended effects. They include a change in mood/ mood imbalance, bone degradation and change in bone growth, cataracts, increased blood sugar( due to induced insulin production), increased blood pressure, muscle problems, scars on the skin, accumulation of body fat and electrolyte imbalance. Other side effects include trouble sleeping, diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, and sweating. Inform your doctor if you experience any of these side effects so that they can adjust the dosage accordingly.
Inform your doctor of any allergies to medicine and pre-existing conditions before the dosage is administered. If you are taking other medication including OTC drugs, the doctor should know of it. Athalin is known to interact with beta blockers medicine containing atenolol, metoprol, labetalol, nadolol, and propanolol. Other drugs include diuretic pills, epinephrine, and other asthma medication. Antidepressant drugs such as amitriptypline, imipramine, desipramine, nortriptyline, protriptyline and MAO inhibitors can also have negative interactions with the drug. Interaction between Athalin and alcohol is not known. It also contains lactose as an active ingredient and lactose intolerant patients should be cautious. Asthalin tablets shouldn’t be administered to pregnant women unless absolutely necessary.
