How to use Acamprol
Acamprol (Acamprosate) is used to help reduce alcohol dependency in alcoholic patients who have decided to address their addiction. Alcoholism can affect the chemicals in your brain by unbalancing them, and this drug works by restoring these chemicals to their former state. It is usually used with counselling or behavioral modification techniques so the patient has the support needed to maximise the benefits of this medication.
In addition, to helping recovering alcoholics, this medication may also be prescribed by physicians to help treat mild to moderate renal impairment. Please note, this medication is not recommended for any form of substance dependence other than alcohol addiction.
Acamprol Dosage
Dosage will depend on the magnitude of your alcohol dependency. Consult your physician and strictly follow prescriptions.
As a general guide, patients will typically be advised to take Acamprol 2 tablets (333 mg) per dose, thrice daily. If you have stomach upsets after dosage, it may help to dose alongside a light snack. Patients should start this medication immediately after stopping their alcohol consumption and continue if and when a relapse occurs.
For renal impairment, you will normally be advised to take 1 tablet of 333mg, thrice daily.
